Ways to soothe an infant after piercing their ears?

We are going to get our 5 yr old and 3 month olds ears pierced this coming week and I was wondering about good ways to soothe an infant during and after getting their ears pierced? If you have a negative view on this procedure then please keep it to yourself because there is nothing wrong with fetting it done. I get very tired of people on here telling me I am a bad mom because they want to keep their children completely sheltered their entire life. I AM a great mother. Ok now that I got that out lol I was told by a family member to dip a pacifier in a vanilla milkshake and let her have that right after. Any other ideas in case that doesn't work?
