Do I need to change my fish tank filter bio bag?

I have a 20 gallon fish tank with a Tetra Whisper 10-30 filter. I got my filter when i started my fish tank a few months ago. I do change the water regularly but have never changed the bio bag because im not sure if your supposed to. My tank does have a slight odor to it. My question is do I need to change the bio bag?
